Colour may not be on the top of your list when it comes to buying used cars. And sure, when it comes to how good the car's condition is, engine spec, its MOT and general wear and tear, colour shouldn't be an issue. But if you're wishing someone will 'buy my car' you may have to give some thought to its colour.
Buy my car - checking out colour
Although AA research says only 1% of men and 3% of women think the colour of a car is important when they want someone to buy their car, or when they're looking to sell a car, colour does matter. In fact, if you choose the wrong car colour and you're hoping, 'buy my car' you could end up selling it for a lower price. Research by Glass's Information Services found that although it can cost £500 for a metallic finish, it could make your car worth £2,000 more than a model with a flat finish one year down the line.
What's in a colour?
If you're getting desperate, wishing 'buy my car' but simply can't shift it, a new lick of paint could help. A metallic paint can make a car look good, especially sports cars and convertibles. As well as the finish, the colour of your car can play a key part when you're hoping someone will buy your car. Conservative colours will appeal to a wider market, making the car more sellable to more people. AA research shows that if you're thinking, 'buy my car', it's worth knowing that six out of ten new cars come in red, blue and silver. If your car is yellow, turquoise or pink, you might want to consider investing in some paint: only one in a hundred buyers chooses these outlandish shades. And if your car is green or white, one in ten of us will consider saying yes when you ask, 'buy my car?'
Buy my car - It matches your eyes!
Picking the wrong colour could make it harder to sell. And of course it depends on the make. If you're lucky enough to have a Ferrari and you ask someone, 'buy my car, its white' the chances are they'll look for one in red first. White suits white van drivers and lorries but stylish, status symbols? Similarly, you wouldn't want a sleek executive car in a bright colour.
